Q: Who is eligible to enter the Contest?

A: Contest is open only to legal residents of the U.S. and D.C. who are 16 years of age and older at the time of entry.


Q: When can I enter the Contest?

A: Entry begins on 1/27/12 at 12:00:01 a.m. Eastern Time (ET).


Q: When does the Contest end?

A: The Contest ends on 3/24/12 at 11:59:59 p.m. (ET).


Q: How often can I enter the Contest?

A: There is a limit of one (1) entry per person.


Q: Can I make changes to an entry I’ve submitted?

A: No. Once an entry is submitted, you may not edit or resubmit with edits.


Q: Will I be notified once my entry is in the gallery?

A: Entrants will not be notified.


Q: If my entry is not in the gallery, can I change/update/improve it and enter it again?

A: Incomplete, unintelligible entries and entries that do not fully comply with all of the requirements set forth herein will be disqualified and will not be included in the gallery. Once an entry is submitted, you may not edit or resubmit with edits.


Q: My entry is posted in the gallery, does that I mean I won?

A: No, entries posted in the gallery are not prize winners.


Q: Can I enter an entry submitted from a previous contest?

A: Entries submitted from previous contests (whether winning entries or not) are not permitted.


Q: Can my group, team, class enter?

A: An entry must be an original sculpture created solely by the entrant. Please do not submit a sculpture that you personally did not create. No team or group entries.




Q: What elements make up an entry?

A: There are 4 elements:

  1. Completion of entry form.
  2. One to three (1-3) photographs of sculpture.
  3. Name of your sculpture (maximum of 100 characters).
  4. Description of sculpture (maximum of 500 characters).

Q: How many photos can I upload?

A: A minimum of 1 photo and a maximum of 3 photos.


Q: What are the size/file requirements of photo(s)?

A: Photo formats must be in JPG or PNG and no larger than 3MB.


Q: Why won't my photos upload?

A: Make sure your photos meet the following requirements:

  1. JPG or PNG file format
  2. Total File size must be 3 megabytes (MB) or less

Q: How do I resize my photo if it's larger than 3 megabytes (MB)?

A: Most computer operating systems have built in tools for resizing and reducing photos, or you may want to use the software you received with your digital camera to resize your photo, or there are free online services. When resizing photos, always save the resized image as a copy, or use another file name, so you do not overwrite the original.


Q: Do I have to use Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape?

A: Yes, 90% or more of your sculpture must be made from Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape.

Q: How much tape do I have to use?

A: The amount of Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape used to create the sculpture must be 90% or higher and must be plainly visible in the Entry.


Q: Can I use other materials in my sculpture?

A: Yes. Up to 10% of the Sculpture/Entry may include other materials to support or enhance the sculpture.


Q: Can my photo include people with my sculpture?

A: If you choose to include a person/people in your photo(s), as the Entrant, you represent and warrant that you have obtained written permission to use the likeness of any person or persons appearing in a Photo as described in these Official Rules, including but not limited to, in connection with Contest-related publicity and general advertising and promotional purposes, and agrees to cooperate with Sponsor and upon request, facilitate and provide written evidence of such permission.  If the likeness of a minor (as determined by the jurisdiction in which the minor resides) is included, such written permission must be from the minor's parent or legal guardian.


Q: What are the entry requirements?

A: To be eligible for Contest judging and prize award, an Entry must meet, and each Entrant hereby warrants by submission of his/her Entry the truthfulness and accuracy of, the following additional requirements:

  • That the sculpture will be original and created solely by Entrant (a sculpture not personally created by an Entrant is ineligible, as is a sculpture created by a team or a group);
  • That the Entry will not depict any third-party intellectual property (NO logos, trademarks, images, or contributions by others);
  • That Photos will clearly show that 90% or more of the sculpture is made from Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape (up to 10% of the sculpture may include other materials to support or enhance the sculpture);
  • That the Entry will not be obscene, indecent, contain profanities, depict any person, place, thing or Sponsor or its products and services unfavorably, and will be suitable for all ages and for replication/display, as specified in these Official Rules or on the Website;
  • That, if applicable, he/she has obtained written permission to use the likeness of any person or persons appearing in a Photo as described in these Official Rules, including but not limited to, in connection with Contest-related publicity and general advertising and promotional purposes, and agrees to cooperate with Sponsor and upon request, facilitate and provide written evidence of such permission.  If the likeness of a minor (as determined by the jurisdiction in which the minor resides) is included, such written permission must be from the minor's parent or legal guardian; 
  • That none of the contents of the Entry (including, without limitation, the sculpture) have been previously published or entered in any promotion; and
  • That (i) the contents of his/her Entry (including, without limitation, the Photos and description of the sculpture) become the property of Sponsor; (ii) Sponsor and its agents have the unqualified right to edit, adapt, modify, reproduce, promote, use and otherwise exploit such contents, or any part thereof, throughout the world in perpetuity, without payment of any compensation to Entrant; and (iii) none of the acts specified in subparagraph (ii) will infringe on, or violate the rights of any third party, including, without limitation, copyright, privacy and publicity.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, an Entrant may republish any or all of his or her Photo(s), each of which Photo(s) must be accompanied by a link to Website, on personal websites or social media sites solely for the purpose of publicizing his/her Entry in the Contest and inviting participation by eligible persons via Public Voting, as described below in the Public Voting section.
  • If entrant is under 18 years of age at time of entry, he/she must have received prior consent of his/her legal guardian in order to enter the contest.  Entry from an entrant who is under 18 years of age will then be deemed submission of the legal guardian who granted the consent to participate.

Each Entrant agrees to participate in scheduled public relations/media activities (e.g., media interviews, media appearances) prior to, during and after the selection of the winning Entries, if requested to do so by Sponsor.
Each Entrant also agrees to reasonably preserve his/her sculpture in the form depicted in his/her Entry through prize notification and acknowledges that Sponsor shall have the right to require that such sculpture be loaned to Sponsor for up to twenty four (24) months for display at Sponsor’s corporate headquarters or other public locations, with no additional compensation to such Entrant.  Sponsor will be solely responsible for the retrieval, display and return of a sculpture, at no additional cost to the Entrant.


Q: What does it mean that “the sculpture must be original"?

A: Original means your sculpture is new, fresh, distinct and unique; it is not a copy, interpretation or inspired by someone else’s work.

Q: What does it mean that an Entry may not include any third-party intellectual property?

A: In general, we are looking for original sculptures. This means that no person or business has a right to challenge your entry because they are the original owners of a logo, symbol, design, image, persona, etc., or any combination of these elements. Your Entry should not include company or product names or brands, cartoon or animated characters, characters from movies, videos, TV shows, commercials, famous people (dead or alive), buildings, landmarks, statutes, works of art, etc.




Q: How are finalists chosen?

A: Round 1: On or about April 2, 2012, an independent, qualified panel of judges will judge all eligible Entries received based on the following criteria:

  • Execution (40%) - the visible use of Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape in your sculpture and the ease of recognition of the Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape in the photo(s) submitted.

  • Presentation (30%) - quality and construction of sculpture and how well you present your work in the photo(s) submitted.

  • Creativity (30%) - the originality of your sculpture.

Round 2: The five (5) highest scoring Entries from Round 1 of judging will be subject to a public vote on OfftheRollContest.com from April 19, 2012 through May 2, 2012.

Q: How is the grand prize winner chosen?

A: The five (5) highest scoring Entries from Round 1 of judging will be subject to a public vote on OfftheRollContest.com from April 19, 2012 through May 2, 2012.

Members of the public can view and vote for the finalist Entry that they believe should be the Grand Prize winner by applying the following criteria:

  1. Creativity (60%) - the originality of the sculpture.
  2. Presentation (40%) - quality and construction of sculpture and how well you present your work in the photo(s) submitted.

The two entries that receive the most number of eligible votes will advance to Round 3: Final Judging.  Limit 10 votes per person/email address per day. In the event of a tie, the Entry with the highest score from Round 1 will advance to Round 3.

In Round 3, scores from he independent, qualified panel of judges will determine with entrant will be declared the Grand Prize winner, dependant on:

  1. Creativity (60%) - the originality of the sculpture.
  2. Presentation (40%) - quality and construction of sculpture and how well you present your work in the photo(s) submitted.

The Round 3 finalist with the highest score in final judging will be declared the Grand Prize winner.  The other Round 3 finalist will be declared the First Runner-Up.

Q: How will I know if I am a finalist in the contest?

A: Potential finalists will be notified by telephone or mail on or around April 2, 2012.

Q: How will I know if I am the Grand Prize Winner?

A: The Grand Prize Winner will be notified by telephone or mail on or around May 4, 2012.

Q: How does public voting work?

A: The five (5) highest scoring Entries from Round 1 of judging will be subject to a public vote on OfftheRollContest.com from April 19, 2012 through May 2, 2012.

Q: What are the prizes?

A:

  • 1 - Grand Prize - $5,000 awarded in the form a check written in the name of the Grand Prize Winner.
  • 1 - First Runner-Up Price - $1,000 awarded in the form of a check written in the name of the First Runner-Up
  • 3 - Second Runner-Up Prizes - $500 awarded in the form of a check written in the name of each of the second runners-up.
